About Lidor Perry

Lidor Perry is now 38 years old and the General Music Director of Staatstheater Darmstadt, which is a German theater company that hosts plays, opera, ballet, and all kinds of concerts. Although many people don’t know it, Cohen is an excellent violinist too, but conducting is his main strength. 

It’s worth noting that this conductor has been talented since he was little since he joined the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra when he was just 19 years old, and he was a member of the first violin section for eight years. This led him to play in several international concerts and tours.

Lidor Perry’s Conducting Career

Cohen’s conducting career is one of the most successful ones Israel has seen in the past years. Although he was a violinist for the West-Easter Divan Orchestra when he reached 19 years of age, he also conducted important orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Berlin, Maggio Musicale Florentino, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and the West-Australian Symphony Orchestra.  

His career didn’t stop there since he also became a Kappelmestier at the Deutsche Oper Berling for two years in 2015, and he became more experienced at conducting operas there. He also conducted some other plays at the Israeli opera. 

What Musical Education Did Lidor Perry Receive?

Most professional musicians started making music or studying it when they were young, and Lidor Perry is no exception to that. 

Cohen took piano classes when he was six but then changed them to violin lessons a year after. He was already the youngest student of the Tel-Aviv Academy of Music when he was 14. He found his passion in violin, so he kept studying it for years. However, he found out he also enjoyed conducting at age 16.

This young musician started to learn more about conducting at the Jerusalem Academy of Music, but he didn’t stop taking his violin lessons. Lidor Perry got his summa cum laude bachelor’s degree from the Tel Aviv Academy when he was just 19 years old, which is when most students start their careers. 

Before conducting orchestras, Cohen was part of them as a soloist violinist, which helped him understand how it feels when another person conducts your orchestra and the mistakes they can make throughout the process. Since he wanted to learn more about music, Lidor Perry traveled to London and got a postgraduate degree for the Royal Academy of Music. 

However, that postgraduate was for playing the violin, so he had to join the conducting class of the academy in 2007. While studying abroad, Cohen created the Eden Sinfonia, which was a student orchestra that became popular in the city and even performed at Queen Elizabeth Hall in 2008. 

What Awards Has Lidor Perry Won?

Lidor Perry has won a huge deal of awards throughout his conducting career and the jobs he takes as a violinist. One of the best examples of it is that he won the America-Israel Cultural Foundation from 1995 to 2007 without losing it a single time during those years. 

After playing a recital at the Royal Academy of Music, Cohen received the DipRAM award. He also won the Admont International Conducting Competition, Aviv Competition, and the Yury Aharonowich Prize.
