Intuition & Business Leaders

Intuition has business leaders raving about its ability to guide and direct them to greater success and higher profits.

“Often you have to rely on intuition.” – Bill Gates

In today’s business world, the amount of information we are exposed to can be overwhelming. We need the ability to be creative, think on the fly and make quick business decisions without being caught up in the information whirl wind.

“I began to realize that an intuitive understanding and consciousness was more significant than abstract thinking and intellectual logical analysis. Intuition is a very powerful thing, more powerful than intellect, in my opinion. That’s had a big impact on my work.” – Steve Jobs

It was during a trip to India, much before Apple became a company, where Jobs became aware of his intuition. It was through deep soul searching that he discovered his intuition, which he later described as “priceless”.

It’s no coincidence that the most influential physicist of the 20th century, Albert Einstein, and Jobs agree that the one trait at the heart of their success was intuition.

“The only real valuable thing is intuition” – Albert Einstein

Einstein also agreed that intellect takes a back seat, saying:

“The intellect has little to do on the road to discovery. There comes a leap in consciousness, call it intuition or what you will, and the solution comes to you, and you don’t know how or why.”

Intuitive business leaders understand the value of their intuition. Intuition provides them with an awareness that allows them to take action based on an inner vision enabling them to apply solutions in ground-breaking ways.

Change and balance

Science has studied this type of intelligence. Specifically, brain science has identified 3 Types of Intuition:

Ordinary, Expert, & Strategic

1. Ordinary Intuition many of us use every day without even knowing, it can be described as a hunch or gut instinct coming through in the form of an emotion/feeling.

For example, the gut feeling you get when you meet someone face to face, or hear the sound of their name. Or, have you ever made a decision and immediately felt sick or clammy? That’s ordinary intuition telling you that the decision your analytic mind came to is at odds with your instinct.

2. Expert Intuition is instant insight based on familiarity.

Someone who drives on the same highway day after day can develop the insight to enable them to predict traffic movement, i.e. when a car is about to change lanes even though they didn’t signal. Just like a tennis pro’s predictions of where the ball will go. The familiarity of the situation for both these experts allows expert intuition to flow instantly and automatically.

3. Strategic Intuition is a flash of insight to enable action for new situations. Strategic intuition is a matter of knowing without knowing how you know.

One of the most famous examples of strategic intuition in action could be Steve Job’s creation of the iPhone. Jobs demonstrated his intuition skills through his incredible ability to foresee, and then design, what users wanted next. When unveiling the product Jobs declared the iPhone would “reinvent the phone.” Microsoft CEO responded that it would be a “niche” product having no chance of significant market share”. The iPhone was a game changer for the industry, making Apple the company to beat in terms of innovative technology.

Strategic intuition starts with thinking about wanting to do something new. Without warning you will get a flash of insight for a strategy of action needed to manifest what your desire is. With this flash of insight comes awareness and an instant “a-ha” moment that can hit you like a ton of bricks with excitement, and the next step of action is crystal clear.

Sometimes you get the complete “a-ha” solution and sometimes you get only one step at a time, leading you to the solution. Strategic intuition can sometimes be like putting together a puzzle, you’ll work on it, and try different pieces, and when you got it you’ll know instantly. The result is the same, intuitive excellence!

All 3 types of intuition involve a flash of insight. The main difference between them is that strategic intuition involves thinking where ordinary and expert intuition just happens, no -thinking involved.

You can recognize a flash of insight because it is fast and usually accompanied with a sense of urgency or motivation to follow through. Sometime this “a-ha” moment can be so powerful it can jolt you out of bed! Motivation is in the moment, at the time of the flash of insight. This is key, because if you lose the moment you often lose the motivation. The more often you pay attention to these moments the easier they will be to identify and them more often you will have them.

Tips

-> Capture your flashes. Write it down in the moment and take action immediately!

-> Become open, pay attention to your senses. Listen to your gut, literally.

-> Pay attention to your dreams.

Remember, intuitive insights can involve all our senses: a vision/image, a “little voice”/words, a feeling/emotion or from our other senses; smell and taste.

Intuition continues to be poorly understood

Intuition skills are not easily measurable, hard to prove and as such not given enough credibility in today’s business world. The study of intuition in science is still young. Most people who use this skill often attribute it to luck or coincidence and don’t talk about ‘how’ they came up with the idea.

Learning to harness this powerful tool can be a game-changer for you and your career. With practice and experience you can learn to use it for BIG breakthrough results.

Next time you’re faced with a high-stakes decision or need some game changing insight, tap into the hidden value of your intuition to help guide you to the best path forward and keep practicing until you have your breakthrough moment.
